RiverStage invites you to the spellbinding and beloved musical, “Into the Woods”! Performances will be at Greenspace Center, 815 Market Street, Lewisburg on Friday and Saturday evenings at 7:30pm on June 6, 7, 13 and 14, and two Sunday matinees at 2:30pm on June 8 and 15. Tickets are just $15 for adults and $8 for students, with general admission seating, and they can be purchased at the door or at www.riverstagetheatre.org.
With music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, and book by James Lapine, Into the Woods is the charming musical that brings favorite storybook characters together in unpredictable ways. It follows a Baker and his wife, Cinderella, and Jack (of the Beanstalk) who set off on separate journeys into the forest to try and make their wishes come true. Alongside other familiar and colorful characters like Little Red Riding Hood, Rapunzel and many more, everyone’s wishes finally come true, but with a cost. Featuring favorite tunes like “Agony,” “It Takes Two,” “Giants in the Sky” and “No One Is Alone,” Into the Woods is a Tony Award-winning masterpiece that has been entertaining audiences since its Broadway debut in 1986. It has been produced numerous times since then around the world, and inspired the 2014 Disney film adaptation of the same name.
The production features 17 performers from across the Susquehanna Valley. The Baker and his wife are played by Isaiah Inch (RiverStage’s Fences) and Joyce Martin (RiverStage’s Oliver!), respectively, and they are set on their path by the Witch (Ashley Jackson) under the watchful eye of the Narrator (Nick Buckman, RiverStage’s Spamalot, Lend Me a Tenor). Jack and his Mother are played by Elliot Muller and Susan Diffenderfer (Sound of Music), respectively, and Cinderella is played by Shanice Brandon. The cast of other coloful characters is full of other talented performers from all over our region, some making their RiverStage debut, including Eliza Whyman (Little Red Riding Hood), Lauren Rovito (Lucinda), Briana Shervinskie (Florinda), Hannah Miller Smith (Stepmother), Maddy Bucher (Rapunzel), Judy Machesic (Cinderella’s Mother), Tyler Marvin (Cinderella’s Prince), Tyler Boyles (Rapunzel’s Prince), Andrew Druckenmiller (Cinderella’s Father) and Jacob Molina (Steward). The show is directed by Emily M. Shaffer, with costumes by Anne Griffin and Pat Musselman, lighting by Cole Casimir, set design by Jove Graham, props by Dodie Lovett, and stage management by Sara Jones.
