Day Seven: “Is God Trustworthy?”, by Don Casteline
He has given me a new song to sing, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see what he has done and be amazed. They will put their trust in the LORD.
Psalm 40:3 (NLT)
I remember hearing evangelist Louie Giglio share about a time when he struggled, for several months, with depression and stress. He described a specific moment when he woke up in the middle of the night feeling like his heart was going to erupt. He literally couldn’t breathe. It was at that moment that Louie cried out to God for help. He remembered the verse which says “God gives songs in the night”. Almost immediately his mind recalled song lyrics that directed his heart to a place of worship. Louie sang those lyrics over and over till it was morning. While it was a process to find healing, Louie acknowledged that turning his heart to worship was what God used to lead him out of the darkness and back into the light of God’s love.
Each one of us is on a journey. Sometimes the path gets a little messy… and sometimes it gets really messy! When David wrote Psalm 40:3, he had just experienced life “in the pits”. In fact, he described being rescued from a “slimy pit” (which I’m sure is way worse than those regular pits)! Going through that actually allowed David to experience the blessing of having God pull him out of such a low place. David was given a powerful reminder that the Lord is good and trustworthy!
Psalm 40 is a great reminder for us that when life’s journey gets hard and we feel like we’re stuck in the “pit” we can always turn to God in worship… even in the middle of the night! After all, God is trustworthy every moment of every day… no matter what!
Since 1988, WGRC listeners have been sharing stories about God’s trustworthiness in their time of need. Many of those stories have included how God used the radio to provide the ‘right song’ at the ‘right time’. We, at WGRC, are grateful for the privilege it is to be part of those special moments and we praise God for being good, faithful, dependable and trustworthy.
Let’s pray…
God we thank you for loving us. We are grateful that even when life is confusing and difficult, we can turn our hearts to you in worship and can trust you to do whatever is best! Please open our eyes to any areas that we may be holding back from you. Help us to put our trust in you each day…
