Festival Features Blues, Berries, Fun and Fellowship Sept.
15

Blueberries, fun, and fellowship will abound when the
congregation of St. Luke Lutheran Church, 1400 Market Street,
Williamsport,  sponsors a Blueberry
Festival with aid from Scout Troop 12 and Cub Scout Pack 12 with proceeds to
support Sojourner Truth Ministries.

The festival is from noon to 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 15, under
a tent on the front lawn of the church and inside its community room in Bell
Hall.  The event is at no cost to the
public although donations will be accepted for Sojourner Truth, a
non-profit  Christian ministry operating  at 501 High Street that provides services for
homelessness and hunger prevention.

Hot dogs, chips, ice cream and blueberry desserts will be available
throughout the event. There will be a blueberry pie tasting contest with
donations as votes. Any remaining blueberry treats will be sold at the close of
the festival.

The festival is co-sponsored by the Fellowship, Outreach,
Property and Education Committees with church members and friends baking the
blueberry delicacies. Dr. Jere Eshelman provides the berries which he and
friends harvest from his property in Sullivan County. Sarah Young and her
family will erect the tent. Jeffrey LeCrone is pastor and Deb Smith is chair of
the Outreach Committee.

Ruth Croyle, chairman of the Fellowship Committee, and
Cheryl Newburg, chairman of the Education Committee, said in addition to food,
music and friendship, there will be games and crafts for younger children
sponsored by the church and games for older youngsters provided by the Scouts.

The Blues-berry Jazz Ensemble will perform a couple of sets
between noon and 2 p.m. Members include Dave and Diana Bailey, Dan Lamade,
Becky Ciabattari and Conrad Mailleue. Rod Strother will provide the sound
system.

Sojourner Truth representatives will attend the festival
with information about the non-denominational ministry. It serves meals six
days a week, social service assistance, spiritual care, and a holistic
transitional housing program to help women overcome homelessness.

St. Luke Lutheran Church chartered the Scout Troop more than
100 years ago. Dr. William Piotrowski is Scout Master, and Wendy Trythall
serves as assistant Scout Master and Cub Master of Cub Scout Pack 12. The
organizations will have information available about their programs.

The Scouts and Cub Scouts have developed a background for a
photo opportunity and are planning several activities for youngsters, including
a fishing game. They also will have a tent encampment set up to demonstrate
some of the activities the Scout program offers. The Scouts meet from 7 to 8:30
on Mondays at the Church’s Rafius House. The Cubs meet from 5 to 6 p.m. Sundays
in Bell Hall.
