I have been doing a lot of reading in the Old Testament lately and it is so interesting to focus on different facets of God from the Old Testament perspective. As I read through the book of Daniel, I was especially impacted with reminders of the attributes of the God we serve. I love reading the stories of the lion’s den, the fiery furnace, and Daniel’s interactions with the Babylonian kings. What struck me most deeply this time as I read, was the concept of God’s sovereignty.
According to my Bible’s introduction to the book of Daniel, “He (Daniel) wrote this book during Israel’s captivity to encourage the people to trust in God who controls all of history.”
There are many references woven throughout the book that reflect this truth. They remind us of God’s majesty, power, and the fact that He is in control of everything.
“Praise be to the name of God for ever and ever; wisdom and power are His. He changes times and seasons; He sets up kings and deposes them. He gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to the discerning. He reveals deep and hidden things; He knows what lies in darkness, and light dwells with Him.”
Daniel 2:20-22
Do you need those reminders as much as I do? We must never forget that God is control. He is powerful and sovereign. There is so much more going on then what we physically see around us. God is at work. He knows what He is doing, and He has a plan!
Be encouraged!
