The Creator of Music
~ Courtney Shuster ~
Our God is the God of Creation (Gen 1).
God literally created the act of creating.
Creating is art, and art comes in many mediums: paint, photography, sculpture, dance, the spoken and written word, acting and more. My medium of choice is music. Have you ever sat back and thought about the way music impacts our world?
In cinematography music is used to enhance a viewer’s connection to the film. Music makes us FEEL something. Music has the power to conjure emotion with just a few notes. Think about your favorite song – How many beats does it take before you feel a rush of excitement? How many notes until your heart is taken captive to the sound?
I believe the use of music to create feeling did not originate from man, because God created music. I am convinced that God uses music to connect us to emotions He wants us to feel. And, with music we can better connect with Him in worship. Music is a great gift from God.
God allows music to impact our world. I sit back and marvel at God’s perfect melodies and His goose-bump giving harmonies. He has made every note, and within our DNA He has crafted in us the ability to put those notes together to make a vast range of sounds.
What kind of music do you like best…Contemporary? Country? Hip-hop? Classical? Jazz? Traditional? Oldies? Rock? Instrumental? The very fact that we have been able to come up with such a variety of styles and genres is a reason to be in awe of God for His creation of music.
My praise increases as I mediate on the variety of sound and the depth of emotion He pulls out of me through these sounds. Might my praise to Him be as sweet as the sound as He has gifted to this world.
“Sing a new song to the Lord! Let the whole earth sing to the Lord!” (Psalm 96:1 NLT)
