John 10: 11-13 NLT
“I have told you these things so that you will be filled with my joy. Yes, your joy will overflow! This is my commandment: Love each other in the same way I have loved you. There is no greater love than to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.”
Outside of Jesus what brings joy to you? Something I have been learning recently is to find joy in the simple things.
Prior to 2020 my joy was found in big vacations, mission trips, crowded concerts and lots of people interactions. I loved being in the car going anywhere and being a part of everything God put in front of me. Fast-forward to today and I would describe myself as a momma who loves nothing more than being at home taking care of my children and being a wife.
I have learned to say “no” to things that take me away from my top priorities in life and “yes” to what matters most…and I couldn’t be more thankful for that lesson. Something that God has blessed me with is finding joy in the simple things. Things like watching my kids splash around in our kiddie pool in the backyard, enjoying a cup of coffee in the morning with my husband before the crazy day begins, and Sunday afternoon walks. These are the simple things that bring me joy. These are the simple things that I was too busy for before God taught me how to align my priorities with His purpose for me.
Here’s my challenge for you. What are the simple joys in your life? Take some time over the next few weeks and focus on one simple joy each week. Something that doesn’t take much time or money. Something that falls in line with God’s best priorities for your life. Treasure that simple joy, write it down to look at on the hard days – because those simple joys are reminders of God’s goodness, a gift built just for you.
Your Friend,
Courtney
PS – My son has really been loving Jordan Feliz’s “Next To Me” the last few months. When it comes on in our house or in the car a dance party breaks out. The song has become another simple joy, one wrapped in a great message for each of us. So, if you’re up for a little dance party of your own, hit play below and sing along!
