The Word of the Lord is Sweet like Chocolate
~By Jill Adams ~
I don’t know about you, but lately Chocolate has been on my brain a lot. Chocolate just has to be a gift from God, a little treasure He put on earth for us to find and enjoy. And boy, I am glad man discovered it! For some, myself included, it can be just the thing to curb the sweet tooth or a little pick-me-up when the preprogrammed afternoon naptime comes around. Some folks call it their “guilty pleasure”. Certainly, the world seems to think it’s the perfect way to say “I love you” – with boxes in the shape of hearts and covered in bows.
Chocolate reminds me of another gift that is even sweeter…the Word of God! This month I have been challenged to really get into the word of God by doing 27 books of the New Testament in 27 days. I have been listening to it by audio mostly. I play it in my car, while doing dishes and while relaxing on the couch. I have even found it helpful to listen to while preparing my taxes! At times I have fallen behind, but no worries, Jesus doesn’t mind. It’s been a time of encouragement, discovery, and questions – but mostly has left me wanting more of not only the Word, but time with my Heavenly Father.
Unlike Chocolate, the flavor of the Word of the Lord lingers and has lasting effects. It’s healthy, nourishing, has the ability to bring me peace and (I’m guessing) even lower my blood pressure. His Word is muscle building for those difficult days when I feel like I have the weight of the world on my shoulders. I often ask myself, “If I feel better every time I spend time reading it with Him, then why aren’t I in this gift of Love all the time?”.
I encourage you this Valentine season to dive into His Word like a box of chocolates. Eat as much as you like and feel no guilt! With the Holy Spirit’s help just chewing on a morsel will change your appetite. His Word is chock-full of Love.
Happy Valentines!
